Honda Cadet is a highly popular, entry-level junior karting class in the UK and Europe designed for drivers aged 7 to 13 years old. It is widely regarded as one of the most cost-effective and competitive pathways into motorsport, serving as the launching pad for Formula 1 stars like Lando Norris, George Russell, and Alex Albon.

Key Regulations & Specifications

The class is strictly regulated by Motorsport UK (MSUK) to keep costs low and focus purely on driver skill:

Age Range: Typically 8 to 12 years old (or 7–12 depending on the specific club/championship).

The Engine: Drivers use a sealed 4-stroke Honda engine—historically the GX160, but currently standardising around the MSUK GX200. Engines are sealed by licensed preparers to prevent illegal modifications and ensure parity.

Chassis: Utilises a homologated 900mm or 950mm Cadet chassis (from brands like Synergy, Project One, or EKS).

Minimum Weight: 103kg to 105kg including the kart, fuel, and the driver in full racing gear.

Tyres: Strictly controlled slick and wet tyres (usually Vega) to equalise grip.

Top Speed: Karts reach speeds of approximately 50 mph (80 km/h).
